In home newborn photography sessions are just perfect for so many reasons, whether you have had a c-section and can't drive yet, or you have a beautiful home that you'd love those photographs of your new baby captured in, or you just want the simple convenience having your photographer come to you. The reasons are endless! Sometimes preparing for an in home newborn photography session can be a little daunting, but it doesn't need to be, here are some tips to help you prepare for your in home newborn photography session, and to put your mind at ease.
1. Turn on the heater, newborn babies need a very warm environment to stay comfortable. Even if its not a really cold day, newborn babies have just come out of a perfectly warm environment, so being nudie without that warmth can be really uncomfortable for a them.
2. Feed bub just before the session starts, or once I have arrived as there will be time while I am setting up.
3. Babies feed more frequently during newborn sessions, so be prepared to feed your baby at least 2-3 times during the session.
4. I will set up in the area with the most available natural light, so I may move things around a little bit if needed to reach the window (don't worry, I'll put it all back!).
5. Try not to stress about mess or clutter, you've just had a baby, try to give yourselves some slack. If you would prefer to move clutter from areas such as the lounge or bedroom ahead of time, please feel free to do so, otherwise I'll help you move it upon my arrival.
6. Dress in neutral tones, avoiding matchy-matchy outfits, signage (writing) and pictures on tops as well as distracting patterns like spots and stripes. I really hate telling people what they can or cannot wear, but when it comes to looking harmonious in a group, what you wear is super important. We all want to look back at our photos and love everything about our photos, even our outfit choice!
7. In home newborn sessions take roughly 3 hours, but sometimes they can take longer, so try to keep your whole day free so there is no need to rush.
8. Ok you got me, this is eight, but I had to do something to keep you reading haha! Ok but really read "10 tips for a smooth newborn photography session" blog for some additional tips, and share it with your friends who are having babies with a newborn photography session coming up. They'll love you for it!
Oh and meet sweet little Harper!
With love, Emma xx
